Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sophin Sarin ( Pin ), owner/founder of Twork it out Fitness. Clive's NEW Metabolic Training Center. Physical fitness is a lifestyle that I chose for myself at an early age. In middle school, I became involved in football, basketball, and track, and during high school, I focused on the two sports I am most passionate about: football and track and field. In football, my team made it to the quarter-finals during my junior year, and during my senior year we made it to the semi-finals. In track and field, I ran 100m, 200m, 4X100m, 4X200m, high jump and long jump. I also conducted a mini bootcamp training for the sprinters during track season. After high school, I attended William Penn, where I was given the opportunity to be part of a football team. Today, I continue to focus on my fitness, and I have chosen a career path where I am able to share my passion for fitness. As a trainer, I aspire to assist individuals to reach their fitness endeavors.
Our mission is to help others live healthier lifestyles. This transformation doesn't just happen overnight, it requires dedication and believing that you can accomplish your fitness goals. What I do: I operate a fitness boot camp studio. It’s personal training in a group setting. I help clients to achieve fitness and weight loss goals by keeping them consistent in our fitness classes, staying efficient in their nutrition and to being accountable for everything. I want them to be honest with themselves.
Background: I am a Cambodian refugee. I came to the states when I was a month old. Growing up in poverty and two different cultures wasn’t easy and I always had to compromise. I learned about the American culture at school, and at home it was the Cambodian way. I grew up loving Superman and always tried to be him. Like him, I wanted to be able to help others while making a huge bang that the whole world could hear. … My history with fitness comes from my love of sports and playing football and running track in my high school and college. Aas a fitness professional, I hope to be part of that bang heard around the world.
Why I do what I do: I have always been passionate about helping others. In 2009, I started Twork It Out Fitness to combine my knowledge of fitness with my desire to help. I create a place of refuge for clients where I encourage them to be selfish (focus on themselves) and to lay it all on the line (to push themselves to the limit) while being enveloped with unconditional support and motivation.
To get away from work, I like to: Go for a long run. This is my stress reliever. It helps clear my mind. I also love getting together with the important people in my life, my wife, family and friends. One of my favorite places get away is Wednesday night sushi at Taki.
How I give back to the community: I try to hold Charity Boot Camps whenever one is needed. I have a client who helps the less fortunate during the holidays. She helps put on a Christmas dinner and collects winter clothing donations. Last year we raised over $1,000 and collected a good portion of winter clothing for her cause. The most recent Charity Boot Camp was last June for my client’s 17-month old niece who was undergoing chemotherapy from liver cancer. She needed a liver transplant. Our event helped her family raise more than $8,000. I am happy to say that my client’s niece got her transplant and is doing well.
One thing I would change about the Des Moines area: I always wanted a train system for Des Moines. All the suburbs and surrounding towns around would all have a train link. I think this would drive more business. More traffic more business.
To be taken seriously as a young professional, it’s important to: “Do what you do best and hire the rest.” It’s a quote from Todd Durkin. He was one of the first fitness professionals I listened to in an audio book. If I wanted to be taken seriously about being a fitness professional then I have to own it, learning my craft and be the best trainer I can be. But if there’s other skill that I lack, and I need to strengthen them up by getting help I need and hiring.
In five years, I see myself: Opening a new Twork It Out Fitness FITT Center. I will still strive to be the top fitness professional, doing new and different things. There is no destination for success, just rewards along the journey.
